As the internal administrative office for the Alaska State House of Representatives, the House Chief Clerk's Office prepares and certifies the daily journal; maintains and prepares weekly and daily committee schedules; updates and maintains BASIS (Bill Action and Status Inquiry System) in real-time; publishes a weekly status report for all bills and resolutions; and transmits certified bills, resolutions, fiscal notes and reports to committees of referral, the House and the Governor. The House Chief Clerk's Office receives, numbers and during floor sessions reads across: new bills and resolutions, messages from the Governor and the Senate, reports of standing and special committees, and legislative citations. At the direction of the House Rules Committee Chair the Chief Clerk's Office publishes the daily floor calendar for the House. These tasks are performed in compliance with the Uniform Rules of the Alaska State Legislature.
The House Chief Clerk's Office assists legislative staff in the preparation of committee reports. The office also provides support for legislative staff and the public in locating information about bill or resolution histories.
